On The Night that saw the Sabres induct Dale Hawerchuk and Rick Jeanneret into the Sabres Hall Of Fame, The Sabres overcame 4 Deficits on the Night to beat the Winnipeg Jets 6-5 in Overtime. Ryan Miller return to the crease for the first time in 7 Days and was shaky at the Start. The Jets would capitalize on the Sabres Defensive break downs all night long. They quickly took a 2-0 lead on goals from Mark Flood and Bryan Little 1:06 apart in the first 5 minutes of the game. The Sabres would strike back on Derek Roy’s first goal of the night on the Power Play putting his Wrist Shot past Goaltender Ondrej Pavalec. Sabres Rookie Corey Tropp would score his first goal of the season when he crashed the net 11 seconds later to tie the game at 2. The Jets again would capitalize on a Sabres Defensive Blunder as the Sabres left Tanner Glass wide open in front and his shot went in off of Tyler Myers. The Sabres again would fight back to tie the game scoring their 1st Short Handed Goal of the Season on a pretty play that saw Paul Gaustad serve up a great backhand pass to Jason Pominville crashing the net 41 seconds later.
The Jets would strike on the Power Play 1:07 into the 2nd Period when Bryan Little scored his 2nd of the night capitalizing on Dustin Byfuglien shot that came off the boards hard and out to the slot which Little would pound into the open net. Thomas Vanek would score his 1st of the night on a one-timer on a pass from Brad Boyes with 6:08 left in the 2nd. It wouldn’t take long for the Jets to regain the lead when Tyler Myers and Andrej Sekera both went after Blake Wheeler allowing him to find Dustin Byfuglien all alone in front who put his shot past Miller 47 seconds into the 3rd Period. Derek Roy would tie the game on his 2nd Power Play Goal of the Night One Timed a Jason Pominville cross ice pass past the Thrashers goalie Pavalec. The Sabres would get a Power Play late in the Overtime and would capitalize when Thomas Vanek tipped a Jason Pominville shot past Pavelec to give the Sabres the victory with 25 seconds left in OT. Sabres Specials teams were the big story of the game scoring 4 special teams goals(3 PPG, 1 SHG) on the night. The Power Play scored 3 times on 12 Chances. The Sabres killed off 4 of 5 Power Plays Against.
Miller struggled early on, but got better as the game went on. Miller avoided losing his 5th straight decision with the Win. He made 26 Saves on the Night. Pavelec got the loss stopping 39 of 45 shots he faced.
