Sabres Head Into Break On A Winning Note Beating Devils 2-1 In A Shootout

Ryan Miller and The Buffalo Sabres finished up their 1st Half of the Regular Season on a good note beating the New Jersey Devils. The Game saw the return to the lineup by Defensemen’s Christian Ehrhoff and Robyn Regehr. The Sabres jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st Period on a Lucky Bounce. Nathan Gerbe took a slap shot from the top of the Right Faceoff Circle that went over the net, it hit a stantion and popped out to Jordan Leopold who had a yawning net to shoot at. The Devils will tie the game after Derek Roy would take his 2nd Penalty in a 3 minute span. Patrick Elias would recover a loose puck that hit Sabres Defensemen Tyler Myers in the lower Abdomen. The game would go to a shootout after a scoreless 3rd and Overtime Period. Ilya Kovalchuk would put the Devils in the lead in the 1st Round of the Shootout. Ryan Miller would slam the door the rest of the way stopping Devils snipers Zack Parise, Patrick Elias, and Adam Henrique. Jason Pominville would tie the shootout in the final round and Nathan Gerbe would score in the following round to snap the Sabres 12 Game Road Losing Streak. Ryan Miller was fabulous making 27 Saves on the night netting his 12th win of the Season. Martin Brodeur had an easy night stopping 14 Sabres shots in the loss.

The Sabres finish up the 1st half with a disappointing 20-24-5 record which has them in a 4-way tie for 12th in the Eastern Conference. Lindy Ruff gave some bad news on the injury front after the game saying that Jochen Hecht has concussion like symptoms  which will land him on the injury list for the foreseeable future. This would be Hecht’s 3rd Concussion in a year. Sabres are however expected to get Tyler Ennis and Paul Gaustad back in the lineup next week when they take on the Montreal Canadiens.

Sabres have another busy week next week after the break. Next Tuesday the Sabres head to Montreal for the final time this season to take on Carey Price and The Montreal Canadiens. Face-off is at 7:30 PM and can be seen on MSG HD.
