The Sabres kept their fading playoff hopes alive with a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders. For the 2nd game in a row the Sabres scored a quick goal to open up the hockey game Tyler Myers would find the puck in a huge scrum in front of the Islanders net and would beat Kevin Poulin only 1:21 into the game. Thomas Vanek would put the Sabres up 2-0 3:41 into the 2nd Period when Derek Roy would find Vanek all alone in front of the Islander net and would beat Poulin. The Islanders would score with 5:08 left in regulation to cut the Sabres lead in half when Frans Nielsen would beat Miller. Miller was strong again stopping 30 of 31 Islanders shots winning his 18th game of the season. Kevin Poulin had a strong game as well, but got his 4th loss of the season making 35 Saves. With the win the Sabres moved up to 12th place in the Eastern Conference and within 6th points of the 8th Place Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Sabres return to action on Friday Night when Tim Thomas and the Boston Bruins make their final visit to First Niagara Center this season. Game time is 7:30 PM and can be seen on MSG HD.
