Vanek’s 5 Points Night Leads Sabres Past Flyers

Thomas Vanek picked up where he left off last year recording 5 Points in the Sabres 5-2 Win over the Philadelphia Flyers. The Sabres showed no rust in their first game in over 8 months. The Sabres went 3 for 6 on the power plays and killed off 3 of the 4 Power Plays they faced on the Afternoon. Newest Addition Steve Ott put the Sabres on the board first with a power play marker with less than 9 minutes remaining in the 1st Period. The Sabres would hold the lead until the 2:23 mark of the 2nd Period on a Sean Couturier goal. The Flyers will grab the lead 2:34 later on a Power Play Goal from Claude Giroux. Thomas Vanek would score his first of 2 goals on the Afternoon when he got behind the Flyers defense scoring on the Power Play with 4:06 left in the 2nd Period. The Game would stayed tied until the 14:57 mark of the 3rd Period when Tyler Myers would put the Sabres ahead for good on the Power Play. Cody Hodgson would put the Sabres up 2 picking up a big rebound left by Flyers Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov after a Thomas Vanek Breakaway shot. Vanek would finish his 5 points night netting an empty net goal in the last minute of the game. Ryan Miller earned his first win of the game stopping 27 of the 29 Flyers shots. Ilya Bryzgalov got his second loss of the season stopping 36 Shots.

The Sabres won’t have a long rest, they return to action Monday Night when they take on the rivals Toronto Maple Leafs. Coverage begins at 6:30 PM on MSG HD.
