It wasn’t pretty, but the Sabres did enough to get 2 points out of Toronto and start the Season 2-0. Ryan Miller was on the top of his game all night and held off the Leafs in the final minute of play to give the Sabres the victory. Miller stopped 34 of 35 Maple Leafs Shots on the night. The strong play from the Hodgson-Pominville-Vanek line continued into tonight game. Cody Hodgson got the goal scoring kicked off when a Christian Ehrhoff shot hit him and beat Maple Leafs Goalie Ben Scrivens to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead 8:52 into the game. Jason Pominville would finish off his opportunity in the 2nd Period to put the Sabres up 2-0 through two period. The Sabres strong penalty killing was also a major reason why the Sabres leave Toronto with 2 points killing off 6 of 7 Maple Leafs Power Plays including a stretch of over 2 minutes of 5 on 3 in the first period. The lone Maple Leaf tally came with 1:42 left in the game when Nazem Kadri got a nice bounce off the end boards and cashed in on the Power Play. Ben Scrivens got his first loss of the season stopping 18 of 20 Sabres shots on the night. The Sabres will get a couple of days off before they return to action on Thursday Night when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes in the first half of the home and home between the 2 teams. Puck Drop is at 7:00 on MSG HD.
