It was an ugly night for the Sabres in Carolina and because of that the Sabres lose 6-3 to the Hurricanes. The Sabres played horrible in the defensive zone all night which resulted in their first loss of the season. The Hurricanes who only scored twice in their previous 2 games lit the lamp 6 times on the night with Eric Staal netting a hat-trick. The Goal scoring kicked off early in the 2nd Period when Jeff Skinner gave the Hurricanes the lead 1:06 into the period. The Hurricanes would strike again 3 minutes with a Short Handed Goal from Justin Faulk after a turnover by Jason Pominville. The Sabres would get on the board 5 minutes later when Cody Hodgson picked up a juicy rebound from a Jordan Leopold shot for his 3rd on the Season. Jason Pominville would tie the game less than 2 minutes later tipping home a Christian Ehrhoff pass past Cam Ward. The tie game would be short lived when Jeff Skinner netted his 2nd of the night on a wrap-around 2:20 later. Eric Staal scored 9 seconds later getting a breakaway off the faceoff beating Jhonas Enroth 5-Hole to give the Hurricanes a 4-2 lead after 2 Periods. Jason Pominville scored his 2nd of the night finishing up a nice passing play started by Thomas Vanek 6 minutes into the 3rd Period. Staal 2nd of the night came 3:20 later after a Jason Pominville turnover. Staal finished up the hat-trick with an empty net goal with 1:28 left in the game. Jhonas Enroth had a tough night getting his first loss of the season making 32 saves on the night. Enroth hasn’t on a game since November 26, 2011, he is 0-9-3 in his last 12 starts. Cam Ward gets his first win of the season making 30 saves on the night.
