Vanek 5 Point Night Breaks Sabres Losing Streak In 7-4 Win Over Rival Bruins

Thomas Vanek Hot Start to the Season continued with his 2nd 5 point game of the season and the Sabres losing streak ended with a 7-4 come from behind victory over the rival Bruins. Vanek may of had his best game of his career tonight netting a hat-trick and also getting 2 assists on the night. Vanek’s night started with a one-timer of a Cody Hodgson pass 1:38 into the 2nd Period to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead. The Sabres then would get into trouble in their defensive zone over the next 10 minutes when the Bruins would strike 3 times in that span and the Sabres were running around in their end. Rick Peverley and 2 goals from Brad Marchand put the Bruins up 3-1 with less than 10 minutes left in the 2nd Period. The Game turned a few minutes later when Milian Lucic and Zdeno Chara ended up in the penalty box giving the Sabres a 5 on 3 Power Play. Vanek would get his 2nd of night tipping home a Christian Ehrhoff shot past Tuukka Rask to pull the Sabres with in 1 with 3:15 left in the 2nd. Less than 2 minutes later Vanek might of laid claim to the play of the year setting up a beautiful goal by Tyler Ennis to tie the game at 3 going into the 3rd Period.

The Sabres would find themselves trailing again early in the 3rd Period when David Krejci gave the Bruins the lead again. The Sabres would tie the game against less than a minute later when Alex Sulzer one-timed a Mikhail Grigorenko pass. Thomas Vanek would turn play maker again less than 5 minutes later setting up a Cody Hodgson one-timer to put the Sabres in front for good 5-4. Ryan Miller would slam the door and weather the storm over the last 15 minutes of play to give the Sabres the victory. Thomas Vanek would add on some insurance with his 3rd goal of the night with 1:30 left in the game. Jason Pominville added an empty netter to round up the scoring on the night. Ryan Miller picked up his 3rd win of the Season making 38 saves including 15 saves in the 3rd Period. Tuukka Rask got his first regulation loss of the season making 25 saves on the night.

The Sabres return to action on Saturday against Division Rivals Montreal Canadiens. Puck Drop is 2:00 PM on MSG HD
