Rolston Picks Up First Win As Sabres Head Coach And Sabres Break Losing Streak With 2-1 Truimph Over The Lightning

It wasn’t the prettiest hockey game, but for new coach Ron Rolston and The Struggling Sabres they will take a Win any way they can get it. The Sabres rode Ryan Miller’s 31 Save Performance to a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Game started out like many Sabres games have this season with the opponents getting the jump on the Sabres early. Steven Stamkos scored his league leading 14th goal of the season 1:24 into the game when he was left all alone in front of Miller to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead. Miller would close the door the rest of the way stopping the next 31 shots that came his way. Cody Hodgson would net his 8th of the season almost 10 minutes later banking a shot off the skate of Lightning defensmen Sami Salo to tie the game at 1.

The Sabres Penalty Killing Units came up huge on the night to keep the score tied at 1 killing off all 6 Lightning Power Plays including a lengthy 5 on 3 in the 2nd Period. With the Strong Penalty Killing from the Sabres allowed them the chance to take the lead early in the 3rd Period when Tyler Myers shot from the face off circle beat Lightning Goalie Mathieu Garon. Ryan Miller picked up his 7th win of the season. Mathieu Garon stopped 19 Sabres Shots got hand his 5th loss of the season.

The Sabres will be back in Action on Thursday Night hoping to build off tonight victory when they visit the Florida Panthers. Puck Drop is 7:30 and can be seen on MSG HD.
